2002 Chevy Express 3500 - Documentation Audit
Date: 2026-03-21 Purpose: Verify all three issue folders have complete documentation
✅ CRANK NO START (CrankNoStart/)
Current Documentation Status: COMPREHENSIVE ✅
What's Included:
- ✅ Diagnostic process (priority order, common causes)
- ✅ Initial symptoms and assessment
- ✅ Theories tested (fuel, spark, compression, timing, ECM)
- ✅ Diagnostic readings (45 PSI fuel, P0300 code, spark check results)
- ✅ Root cause identified (broken distributor rotor spring)
- ✅ Repair performed (cap, rotor replaced, cleaned housing)
- ✅ Parts/tools needed (scanner, pressure gauge, spark tester)
- ✅ Cost estimates (~$60-90 total)
- ✅ Session timeline (2026-03-20 diagnosis, 2026-03-21 repair)
- ✅ Lessons learned documented
- ✅ Related notes (CKP history, distributor corrosion pattern)
Missing:
- ⚠️ No YouTube/video references for distributor replacement
- ⚠️ Could add more detailed step-by-step repair instructions
Recommendation: ✅ Keep as-is, minor additions optional
⚠️ POWER STEERING LEAK (PowerSteeringLeak/)
Current Documentation Status: GOOD BUT INCOMPLETE ⚠️
What's Included:
- ✅ Diagnostic process (investigation plan, checklist)
- ✅ Initial symptoms and assessment
- ✅ Theories tested (rack seals, line connections, pump seals, reservoir)
- ✅ Diagnostic readings (fluid level low, brown/tan color, contamination)
- ✅ Root cause NOT YET IDENTIFIED (still investigating)
- ❌ Repair performed (none yet - still in investigation phase)
- ✅ Parts/tools needed (basic hand tools, UV dye kit, etc.)
- ✅ Cost estimates (rack $200-400, pump $100-200, etc.)
- ✅ Session timeline (2026-03-21 initiation, fluid correction)
- ✅ Lessons learned (wrong fluid used, correct fluid identified)
Missing:
- ❌ No specific diagnostic readings (no UV dye test results yet)
- ❌ No step-by-step leak location procedure
- ❌ No YouTube/video references for leak detection or rack/pump replacement
- ❌ No detailed repair procedure once leak is found
- ❌ No specific parts purchased status
Recommendation: ⚠️ Add diagnostic procedure details, video resources, and create "Repair Steps" section for when leak is located
✅ FUEL PRESSURE ISSUE (FuelPressureIssue/)
Current Documentation Status: COMPREHENSIVE ✅
What's Included:
- ✅ Diagnostic process (3 tests: pressure retention, 30-min wait, running pressure)
- ✅ Initial symptoms and assessment
- ✅ Theories tested (weak pump, clogged filter, check valve, regulator)

📊 OVERALL ASSESSMENT
Status:
- CrankNoStart: ✅ Complete - ready to phase out
- FuelPressureIssue: ✅ Complete - actively used
- PowerSteeringLeak: ⚠️ Good foundation, needs diagnostic details and repair procedures
Priority Actions:
- Add YouTube/video links to PowerSteeringLeak for leak detection and repair
- Create detailed "When Leak Found" repair procedure section in PowerSteeringLeak
- Consider adding more specific diagnostic test procedures to PowerSteeringLeak
Next Steps:
- Update PowerSteeringLeak/README.md with video resources and detailed procedures
- Commit changes to Gitea
- Consider phasing out 2002-Chevy-Express-Diagnosis and 2002-Chevy-Express-PowerSteering folders after verification
